ACP-EU Water Facility Project Kickoff in Dar es Salaam

An ACP-EU water facility project kicked off on 27 March 2012 in Dar es Salaam. The aim of this project was to increase capacity and improve utility management in order to deliver sustainable water and sanitation services in peri-urban and urban areas in Dar es Salaam.

The kickoff event was followed by meetings, workshops and discussion between the Bremen Overseas Research and Development Association (BORDA), Hamburg Wasser, Dar es salaam Water and Sewerage Authority (DAWASA), Dar es Salaam Water and Sewerage Corporation(DAWASCO) and  the Ministry of Water (MoW). Since 2009, Dar es Salaam and Hamburg have worked together on this issue. Both cities were awarded a grant by the European Development Fund in order to better implement water and sanitation services in peri-urban and urban areas.

It is expected that this project will increase the capacity of the water and sanitation authorities. Together with DAWASA and DAWASCO, BORDA will develop a business plan for decentralized waste water services in selected areas in Dar es Salaam
